Waldo Canyon Post Fire Reclamation

Habitat Management continues post fire restoration efforts at Waldo Canyon.  The Waldo Canyon fire erupted in June of 2012, over 347 homes were destroyed and 18,247 acres were burned. It is the most costly wildfire in Colorado state history.  On September 13, 2014 the Habitat Management crew was excited to have a special visit from Governor John Hickenlooper during one if the Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado work days.  The VOC has organized multiple volunteer days to assist HMI with restoring burned habitat and preventing erosion in the burned areas.  HMI was proud to show off our successful restoration efforts to Governor Hickenlooper.

Notice the vegetation returning thanks to the hard work by HMI and VOC. The crew enjoying a well deserved rest on those steep slopes!
